Virtual Education Brochure Resources Curriculum Apply FAQ Q1: What is Reclaim Academy? Reclaim Academy is a virtual school designed to provide students with a flexible and personalized learning experience. Our academy uses Edgenuity as the primary learning platform which allows students to complete coursework online, engage with teachers, and track their progress. Q2: What are the benefits of a virtual school like Reclaim Academy? Virtual schools offer flexibility for students who need more control over their schedules, allowing them to work any hour of the day and anywhere internet is available. Reclaim Academy also provides individualized support, access to a wide variety of courses, and the opportunity for students to develop time management and independent study skills. Q3: Who is Reclaim Academy for? Reclaim Academy is for high school students age 25 or younger. In order to be successful in Reclaim Academy students need to have the ability to take initiative, actively pursue learning goals, and constantly work daily towards earning credits by completing coursework. General Information Q4: What kind of technology and equipment do I need for virtual learning? Students will need a reliable computer (laptop or desktop) with internet access and a webcam. We recommend a device with a minimum of 4GB of RAM and an updated operating system using Google Chrome. A dedicated workspace free from distractions is also important for maintaining focus. To facilitate the signing and editing of documents, it is advisable to download a PDF viewer. Q5: What should I do if I'm having technical issues? If technical difficulties occur, first check your internet connection. If the problem persists, contact Reclaim Academy’s technical support team , who are available to help with login issues, platform access, and troubleshooting software or hardware problems. Q6: What is the enrollment process? Reclaim Academy has two open enrollment times. One in July for the Fall semester starting in August and one in December for the Spring semester starting in January. During open enrollment students may apply on our website: Reclaim Academy Homepage Enrollment & Technology Q7: How is attendance tracked in a virtual school? Attendance at Reclaim Academy is tracked based on daily logins and course progress . Students are expected to log in every school day and complete their assignments according to a pacing guide. Students must work a minimum of one hour per course per day or be at or above expected progress to be counted present for the day. Q8: What if a student misses a day or falls behind? If a student misses a day of school, they should make every effort to catch up on missed work as soon as possible. For planned absences, we recommend that students work ahead to stay on track. If the student falls behind, they can reach out to their teacher for assistance or refer to the pacing guide to develop a catch-up plan. For an excused absence, please send your excuse (such as doctor’s note) to the registrar. Q9: What happens if a student has more than 10 absences in a semester? Reclaim Academy’s attendance policy states that students who miss more than 10 days in a semester or are not making adequate progress on coursework may face consequences such as being placed on academic probation, not earning credit for courses, or being withdrawn from the program . The school will work with the family to create an attendance improvement plan, but chronic absenteeism may affect the student’s ability to succeed or remain in the program. Attendance & Scheduling Q10: How do students access their coursework? All coursework is delivered through the Edgenuity platform . Students will log in with their unique credentials to access assignments, labs, projects, quizzes, tests, and instructional videos. The platform tracks progress and provides a pacing guide to help students stay on track. Q11: How much time should students spend on school each day? While students have the flexibility to set their own schedules, it is recommended that they spend at least 5 to 6 hours per day on schoolwork. However, it is required that they work 1 hour in each course per day to be counted present. This may vary depending on the student’s progress, and the number of courses they are assigned. Q12: Is Reclaim Academy self-paced or asynchronous? Are there required class times? Reclaim Academy is asynchronous, giving students flexibility to access coursework independently. However, the program is not fully self-paced, as there are key deadlines to ensure students complete their courses on time. Teachers may also designate specific class times for important lessons or announcements, and regular communication with instructors is essential for staying on track and achieving success. Q13: Can students work ahead in their courses? Yes! Students will be assigned four courses per quarter. Students are encouraged to work ahead on these assigned courses if they are able to manage their time effectively. This is particularly helpful if they anticipate needing extra time later for personal commitments or if they want to finish a course early. Once the assigned courses for the quarter are complete, the student may be assigned needed credit recovery courses to fill in academic gaps. Students will not be assigned new courses at the end of a quarter that they have not previously attempted. Q14: What happens if the student falls behind in their coursework? If a student falls 15% behind the expected pace, their teacher will reach out to discuss the issue and create a plan for catching up. Parents/guardians will be informed, and students may be required to attend extra tutoring sessions or weekly check-ins to ensure they are back on track. Course Structure & Progress Q15: How do students and parents communicate with teachers? Reclaim Academy encourages regular communication between students and parents (if the student is a minor) and teachers. Teachers can be reached via email, messaging through Edgenuity and GoGuardian programs, or during their virtual office hours . Parents are also welcome to attend virtual conferences or request meetings to discuss their child’s progress. Q16: What if a student needs extra help with a course? If a student is struggling with a subject, they can ask their teacher for one-on-one support or attend virtual tutoring sessions . We also offer live sessions for specific subjects to provide additional instruction and answer questions. In Edgenuity a feature called “Chat with a Tutor” provides access to a live, highly qualified person during after school hours and weekends . This service can be activated by clicking the icon on the student’s lesson screen. Q17: How often will parents/guardians receive updates on their child's progress? Parents/guardians receive daily progress reports via email, which detail the student’s current grade, completed assignments, and whether they are on pace. Additionally, parents/guardians can access the Edgenuity Family Portal at any time to view current data on a student’s progress and attendance. Communication & Support Q18: What is the Academic Integrity Policy? Reclaim Academy has a strict Academic Integrity Policy that prohibits cheating, plagiarism, and any form of dishonest behavior. Students are expected to complete their work independently and ask for help when needed. Violations of this policy can result in serious consequences, including receiving a zero on the assignment, being required to restart the course, or being administratively withdrawn. Academic Integrity & Expectations Q19: What if a student needs more time to complete an assignment? If difficulty meeting a deadline occurs, the student should contact the teacher as soon as possible. It is important that students communicate their needs before the deadline has passed for support. Deadlines & Extentions Q20: What are the consequences for violating Reclaim Academy's policies? Consequences vary depending on the severity of the violation. Minor violations may result in a warning or a meeting with the teacher, while more serious infractions may lead to academic probation or administrative withdrawal. However, Reclaim Academy takes a restorative approach to discipline, working with students and families to resolve issues before reaching this point. Consequences for Policy Violations Q21: How do students graduate from Reclaim Academy? Students at Reclaim Academy follow the same graduation requirements as traditional schools. They must complete the necessary coursework, meet credit requirements, and fulfill any additional state or district requirements. Our Coordinator of Transition Services is available to assist students with planning their course load, meeting graduation requirements, and tracking their progress toward graduation. Q22: Can students transfer their credits to another school? Yes, the credits earned at Reclaim Academy are transferable. If a student decides to change schools, they can request their transcript, which will reflect completed credits. Graduation & Course Completion Q23: How are students with special needs accommodated in Reclaim Academy? Students with current 504 plans or Special Education plans (IEPs) will have their services/accommodations implemented at Reclaim Academy. (Accommodations to fit the virtual setting may be necessary). If a student develops a condition that impacts their ability to participate in school, please contact our administration immediately. We will work with you to create a 504 plan or, in certain circumstances, a Special Education referral, which may include adjusted deadlines, reduced assignments, or other accommodations.
